Betrayed for Me – Pastor Jeremy Hartley

Betrayed for Me                                                                                                       March 3, 2024

  1. The disease of self righteousness (John 12:4-6)

John 12:4–6 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

  1. The danger of superficial faith (II Corinthians 13:5)

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

  1. The disaster of hypocritical living (Matthew 27:3-5)

Matthew 27:3–5 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, [4] saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” [5] And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.

  1. The deceit of proximity (John 10:27-28)

John 10:27–28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
