“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.  In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan – The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.  You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.  For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.  Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.  For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.  He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.  The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”                                                                                    (Isaiah 9:1-7)

Having Hope In Christ Involves:

  1. Receiving the Counsel of the Wonderful Counselor

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor…”

“If your brother or sister sins (against you), go and point out their fault, just between the two of you.  If they listen to you, you have won them over.”                                  (Matthew 18:15)

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, `Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me?  Up to seven times?’  Jesus answered, `I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-times seven (seventy-seven times)… This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.’”                 (Matthew 18:21-22 & 35)

  1. Relying on the Strength and Power of a Mighty God

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”                                                                 (Ephesians 6:10-13)

  1. Responding with Obedience in Your Relationship with an Everlasting Father

“If you love me, keep my commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him.  But you know him, for he lives with you and will be (is) in you.”                                                                                          (John 14:15-17)

  1. Remaining in the Peace of God as You Experience the Prince of Peace;
  1. Peace with God

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.  And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”               (Romans 5:1-5)

  1. Peace with Others

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.  Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.  Live in harmony with one another.  Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil.  Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”                                                                  (Romans 12:14-18)

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.  See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”                                                    (Hebrews 12:14-15)
