Oikos

Why Oikos?

The Greek word “oikos” means home or household. However, unlike the English word “household” that is synonymous with your immediate family and relatives, the Greek word “oikos” relates more to ones own inner circle of close family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. As a people of faith on mission to create “Christ-centered, loving family relationships,” we are to pray for, invest in, invite, and prepare to share the Gospel with those in our circle. Mark 5:19 exhorts us, "Go home to your own people (your oikos) and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." To be the Body of Christ, we must work together by going into the world to reach the people for whom God has placed directly in our lives. This is an immediate need that is constantly growing and changing based on where God has placed you in life.

Step 1: List the people you are close with so that you will pray for them to know God better than they do today.

Step 2: Pray daily for your Oikos to know God more and for ways to invest in their lives.

Step 3: Invest in your Oikos so you can invite them to church to know and trust God more.

Step 4: Invite your Oikos to accept Jesus through conversation or church.

Step 5: Prepare yourself to share the Gospel because you know it and live it.
